The Donaldson Network
Pete Gorton is the founder of The Donaldson Network a group of over 500 authors, researchers andhistorians dedicated to the rediscovery of the lost legacy of John Wesley Donaldson. The Center for Negro Leagues Baseball Research called The Donaldson Network, “The most extensive research projectthat has ever been undertaken related to black baseball.” Pete is a former broadcast journalist living in Northeast Minneapolis and is a member of the Halsey Hall Chapter of The Society of American BaseballResearchers. Pete has studied the career of John Donaldson for the past 17-years; he wrote a chapter devoted to Donaldson in Swinging for the Fences: Black Baseball in Minnesota. (Minnesota HistoricalSociety Press, 2005) which won the SABR/Sporting News research award. Pete’s effort on behalf of JohnDonaldson was recognized by the Negro Leagues Committee with the 2006 Coates Memorial Award foroutstanding research in the field of Black Baseball and the 2011 Tweed Webb Lifetime AchievementAward. Pete recently contributed a bio of John Donaldson to They Played for the Love of the Game byFrank M. White (Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2016) and spearheaded the effort to get JohnDonaldson inducted into The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. He is currently developing adocumentary film about the life of John Donaldson called “39 Seconds.”
